November 2025 (515)

After 2 minutes silence for Remembrance Day the Chairman welcomed club members and visitors to the 515th meeting of Henley Probus Club and, following a short business update including reports from the Treasurer and Secretary, the Chairman introduced our guest speaker Sue Remenyi who gave a talk entitled “Bees and Bee Keeping”.

Sue, who lives locally, has written a number of books on the subject and her talk, assisted by a detailed slide presentation ,covered the life of the honey bee, a detailed description of the life and role of the Worker Bee, the Drone Bee and the Queen Bee in and around their bee hives.

This was followed by an explanation of the role and life of wasps and hornets and highlighted the current concern within the UK at the possibility of Asian hornets arriving in Oxfordshire and the serious threat they would pose to native pollination particularly related to honey bees.

The talk concluded with questions from the audience followed by a very warm message of thanks and appreciation from Club members.
